American Heart Association Community Impact Director in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Responsibilities

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Community Impact Director who will drive the execution of health impact goals across the state of New Mexico, and southern Colorado, by focusing on heart disease and stroke related risk factors and the social determinants of health. This position can based in Albuquerque, NM, Santa Fe, NM, Las Cruces, NM or El Paso, TX.

The Community Impact Director will:

  • Manage, direct, and apply an account management approach to develop and implement a customized, strategic, statewide plan for impact in New Mexico, and southern Colorado. S/he will work in collaboration with cross-functional community-based teams to build strong volunteer relationships, collective impact plans and to support heart healthy resources in the community.

  • Build and implement a cross-functional hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol control strategy with measurable outcomes (high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and healthy behavior initiatives) in the market.

  • Collaborate with development staff partners and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure program funding, including sponsorship for relevant programs, campaigns, and population health impact opportunities.

  • Take on a leadership role within an active collective impact campaign that strives to pass policy, generate systems changes, and lead environment change opportunities that drive large and sustainable population health impact.

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers through strategic community alliances to achieve priority community and collective impact goals and will act as a lead team member when planning and executing community events in multicultural populations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • Five+ years’ experience developing community led programs, campaigns, projects or events

  • Five+ years’ experience recruiting, engaging, motivating and retaining volunteer leaders

  • Three (3) years of experience in strategic planning and plan execution

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills in assessment of environments and available resources

  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health and behavior modification through self-care activities and policy/system-wide changes

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large projects and events ensuring deadline compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to productively participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals with internal and external clients

  • Ability to influence team members without supervisory authority

  • Self-motivated, highly effective organization and analytical skills, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills

  • Intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% outside the market

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

  • Additional duties as assigned by the manager

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Public Health

  • Three+ years’ experience in healthcare systems change or quality improvement

  • Three+ years’ experience in community health and population benefit education

  • Three+ years’ experience in fundraising or business development

  • Experience working with multicultural and underserved communities

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: The hiring salary range is $55,600 - $73,600. Salary minimum to midpoint of the range. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. AHA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any difference between actual compensation and the posted range will be based on factors other than race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy) or national origin.

Benefit Plans: Employees scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in the medical, dental, and vision plans the first of the month following 30 days of service. AHA subsidizes the medical and dental cost to ensure benefits are affordable. Eligible dependents under AHA’s group benefit plans include legal spouse, domestic partner, children under the age of 26 or who are disabled. AHA offers additional benefits like an EAP, telehealth benefit for general medical and behavioral health, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and disability.

Retirement Plans: AHA retirement plans offer employees a way to start saving after their first paycheck. The retirement plans provides employer contributions after two years of service. If you have previous 501(c)(3) non-profit experience, within the last 5 years, at a national health agency, an institution of higher learning or a medical institution, that experience may count towards the two-year waiting period. Employees are 100% vested in employee and employer contributions.

Paid Days Off: Regular full-time and part-time employees earn Paid Time Off (PTO) based on years of service. PTO begins accruing on date of hire. Full time employees receive one paid Community Service time off day per year and are encouraged to participate in projects, programs and organizations which contribute to the health and vitality of their communities. AHA also offers 12 paid holidays per year.

Leaves of Absence: AHA offers both Short Term and Long Term Disability benefits which replace earnings if you are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. Employees are eligible for Short Term Disability after 90 days of service and are eligible for Long Term Disability after being disabled for 90 days or more. Eligible employees can take up to 12 weeks off of work for a qualified leave of absence under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), intermittent FMLA leaves and leave as an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA.
