The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Grassroots Advocacy Manager in our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas (Remote/Home Based is acceptable).
In this role, you will be responsible for Voices for Healthy Kids (VFHK) grassroots strategic planning including the execution of national grassroots campaigns; recruitment, engagement and retention of the VFHK grassroots network; development and coordination of field technical assistance; management of all grassroots technology resources, including the Voices Actions Center; and management of national grassroots assets, including coordination and alignment with AHA’s grassroots campaigns.
Essential Job Duties:
Promote and demonstrate effective collaboration with all VFHK staff and grantees to ensure the effectiveness of field technical assistance and support for grantees to achieve VFHK’s objectives.
Provide technical assistance to state and local coalitions and grantees through one-on-one coaching, developing tools regarding effective grassroots advocacy, and developing and implementing training with local and state coalitions and coalition advocates to engage, train, and mobilize local grassroots volunteers to support the successful implementation of local and state policy campaigns.
Execute effective relationship management of funded state and local obesity and advocacy organizations and coalitions to ensure that these grantees effectively implement technical assistance and campaign plans.
Plan and execute supportive national grassroots campaigns in support of VFHK priorities.
Manages relevant technology assets including the Voices Actions Center. Collaborate with AHA grassroots staff to strategically leverage assets and resources and oversee program evaluation by producing monthly reports on key metrics, developing a standard quarterly report, and compiling analysis on affiliate reporting.
Attends and participates in all relevant AHA, RWJF, and other external meetings throughout the year, including volunteer advocacy meetings, as appropriate.
Cultivate relationships with aligned philanthropic organizations, public health coalitions, and other community leaders to help advance VFHK priorities and support and inform the VFHK’s approach to technical assistance for state and local campaign.

Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, public policy, public health, or a related field of study.
Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
Successful experience or demonstrated understanding in advocacy/public policy, community organization/mobilization, media/communications, and grassroots advocacy tactic development and implementation, including online advocacy.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.
Demonstrated proficiency with grassroots online advocacy tools or similar CMS tools.
Successful experience with building or demonstrated understanding of health equity and targeted universalism.
Must be able to travel overnight approx. 10% of the time.
