The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Director, Procurement Services at our National Center office located in Dallas, TX.
In this role, you will be responsible for the organization’s procurement and supplier strategies. This position interface directly with staff from all business units and Affiliates. You will work closely with Legal, Finance, Audit, Business Technology, and other functional areas to insure contract compliance and adherence to applicable organization policies. You will be responsible for a variety of contracts and supplier relationships that cover diverse areas such as consulting and service agreements, materials, capital equipment, technology, non-disclosure, MOUs and other related contract documents.
Your expertise will help us develop industry and business relationships that optimize AHA’s presence in the non-profit industry. You will plan, direct and manage, through a multifunctional staff, the development and implementation of innovative contracting solutions, project and event support across AHA. This position interfaces with senior and mid-level professionals and reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Services.
Here are some of the essential job duties:
Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with leadership to garner support for selected sourcing projects to align with impacted business areas and maintains momentum to achieve agreed upon objectives.
Leads effort to build strategic sourcing capabilities by developing and implementing creative approaches. This includes developing, recommending and implementing processes, policies, procedures and supporting tools to facilitate improvements for Procurement Services.
Builds, manages and leverages strong working relationships with strategic suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. Benchmark new processes, approaches, and technology that will continually drive improvements on performance and business results.
Manages a team of exempt and non-exempt employees, including but not limited to, staffing development, regular performance reviews, strategic alignment, etc.
Will be required to "win" the trust of stakeholders, establish strong relationships and drive stakeholder value while impacting the "bottom line". Position requires advanced problem solving skills - use rigorous logic and methods to solve problems.
General understanding of department’s business objectives and budget implications.
Must be able to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities as well as differing priorities within internal departments.
Develops various metrics on the outcomes of strategic agreements and internal processes.
Support AHA’s Supplier Diversity Initiative and other programs through active engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned to include occasional travel.

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Material Management or a related discipline. An advanced degree (MBA, MS, MA) in a similar discipline is a plus.
Professional certification such as C.P.M., CPSM or other affiliated certification.
10+ years demonstrated experience in supplier selection, contract negotiations, contract development, analysis and management and supply management in a corporate procurement environment. At least 5 years experience supervising a team of procurement professionals.
Must have held senior leadership position overseeing contracts and procurement activities. Demonstrated track record leading sourcing projects and development of strategic supplier relationships. Some international exposure would be a plus.
Procurement experience in project management, printing, direct mail, logistics, facilities, software and services, leases, promotional products, advertising and travel is a plus.
Must be highly effective at initiating and leading cross-functional procurement teams by building internal and external relationships that create alignment. As well as coach, assess, evaluate, develop, motivate and empower team members.
Candidate must have strong project management and communication skills.
Experience with MS Office, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, SharePoint and contract management and applicable software.
Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), government grants and agreements is a plus.
