The American Heart Association (AHA) has a great opportunity for a Health Initiatives Manager! This individual will lead the overall development of business plans and strategy to achieve health impact, positioning and engagement goals for specific post acute disease states within the Patient Engagement team. The implementation of business plans and strategy will be driven by collaborating with a small core team of staff and volunteers to engage targeted populations of patients and their loved ones to provide education, tools and resources to help patients manage and improve health.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement business plans that will drive the strategic direction of the health initiatives in terms of health impact, positioning, revenue generation and engagement

  • Manage ongoing relationships with external audiences, as appropriate, but not limited to corporate sponsors, strategic partners, healthcare professionals, patients, families and volunteers.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and integration with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate, but not limited to National Corporate Relations, Science Operations, Field Leadership, Engagement and Communications, and vendors

  • Implement marketing and program plans that include engagement strategies to engage key stakeholders through avenues on digital properties, interactive tools, as well as the Patient Support platform and the Heart and Stroke Registry, in alignment with Patient engagement priorities and program goals

  • Help with proposals and grants writing to fund key patient priorities

  • Build and manage revenue and expense budgets and keep spending within limits

  • Develop project plans and program presentations for sponsors and Patient market Sr. team leaders covering health programs, campaign strategy, direction, timing and metric

  • Directing core team members and vendors to develop health education resources, toolkits and content and working with external strategic alliances and internal distribution and communication channels for dissemination

  • Developing and executing a marketing, communications and engagement plan in conjunction with a cross-functional core team to support funder deliverables

  • Oversees reporting on desired metrics and outcomes, sharing evaluation data with appropriate key stakeholders, as well as developing and monitoring budgets

  • Participating and presenting at sponsor/funder meetings, collaborating with CR/MG and other fundraising partners, externally and internally

  • Recruiting and managing volunteer expert panels and/or patient advisory groups to provide input and oversight of health education resources based on market needs and related science

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Health, Sales, Management or Project Management

  • At least five (5) year’s of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of voluntary health organizations and experience with cross functional teams

  • Prior budget administration and forecasting experience

  • Strong project management skills required

  • Word, Excel, PPT – proficient to intermediate level

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Strong negotiating and persuasion skills

  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 25% of the time

Preferred Experience:

  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred.
