The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a AHA/ACC Healthcare Data Manager in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX . The incumbent will be considered a joint employee of both the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC).

The AHA/ACC Healthcare Data Manager will be responsible for providing technical and scientific support in the development of clinical data standards to the AHA/ACC Task Force on Clinical Data Standards and at least 2 data standard writing committees. He/she will also oversee quality improvement projects from conception through final publication.    

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide research and project management support to writing committees including methodology review, clinical trials analysis and creation and maintenance of cardiovascular vocabulary.

  • Oversee all health terminology standards effort and processes of the AHA/ACC Task Force on Clinical Data Standards throughout project life cycle.

  • Prepare and finalize reports, agendas, meeting minutes, project updates and presentations for physician members, executive committees and other key stakeholders.

  • Maintain current knowledge of health policy, practice guidelines, and other regulatory agency requirements pertaining to health standards terminology.

  • Have frequent contact with outside organizations or internal customers that may involve project coordination, information sharing, or resolution of problems. This will include staying up to speed on the activities of the other AHA/ACC Task Forces (e.g. Practice Guidelines and Performance Measures), as well as other groups within AHA and ACC whose work might involve data standard utilization.

  • Coordinate schedules and timelines, change control procedures and project maintenance procedures.

  • Assist with the transformation of existing clinical documents into database format and work with writing committees to complete missing data elements.

  • Perform other research and project management tasks, as assigned.

Required Experience

To be successful in this role, you must have the ability to understand, integrate, and summarize scientific literature.

  • Bachelor Degree in Public Health, Health Informatics or a related field of study.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of Clinical or Research experience in the Medical field.

  • Must have superior writing & communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and health standard reference terminologies such as SNOMED-CT, LOINC, RxNorm, etc

  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 15% of the time.

  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for the use of technology and information systems.
