The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent Research Fellowship opportunity in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX (Home based/Remote is acceptable) . The role is grant funded and will have a duration of 12 months with potential extension for a second 12 month term .
The American Heart Association in partnership with Optum Labs, the health care industry's first open research and innovation facility designed solely around the goal of improving patient care, is recruiting a research and translation fellow to help further the mission and aims of fostering collaboration spanning healthcare stakeholders to work collaboratively in many of the biggest opportunity areas in healthcare with a world class repository of health data.
The AHA/Optum Labs fellow will engage in clinical/translational research and innovation initiatives designed around big data opportunity areas within healthcare. We are looking to hire exceptional people who are highly motivated, have curious minds, and do not wait to be told what to do. As a Research & Translation Fellow, you will work closely with a broad group of Optum Labs staff and partner researchers, translators and program managers to:
Support researchers on constellation projects and solo projects focused on heart health and healthcare with insights into stakeholder voices and perspectives.
Work with observational data (administrative claims & EHR data) in an applied research setting.
Design or advise on the design of studies using observational data and develop study protocols.
Work closely with Researchers and Analysts to identify data issues and solutions to the issues.
Responsible for creating project specification, data sets, data dictionaries, and data verification.
Execute descriptive and statistical analysis.
Collaborate with Partners and Optum Labs staff in regular publication of studies and methodologies.
This position will report to the VP of Constellations & Translation at Optum Labs and the Director of Research and Bioinformatics at the AHA/ASA.
Your success will be based upon skills and experiences in the following areas:
First and foremost, this role requires an in depth working knowledge of secondary data assets in applied research settings.
We are also looking for:
Master's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Health Informatics, or a related field of study.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a range of healthcare organizations (i.e. large health system, academic medicine, managed care setting, government, or health advocacy organization).
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in data mining, R, SAS STAT, Stata, LIMDEP or similar programming experience.
Prior experience managing relationships and partnerships internally and externally.
Experience with grant publication and/or proposal processes
Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely verbally and in written form.
Must have the ability to travel overnight approx. 15% of the time.
