The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Attorney in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX . Our attorneys are Jack/Jill of all “legal” trades by providing sound legal advice, opinions, services, and documents to support the decisions, plans and activities of National Center staff and departments.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide legal support for our mission-related programs and business units

  • Research legal issues and prepare legal opinions, including regulatory compliance obligations

  • Manage work by outside counsel at times to achieve optimal outcomes with contained costs

  • Develop and maintain general knowledge on relevant legal and regulatory risks, particularly in health information technology and

  • Build effective relationships with our key players in the business units

  • Attend strategic meetings, providing legal input and guidance to your Legal teammates on intakes received related to a specific business area

  • Interpret, draft, revise, negotiate, and approve form contracts, leases, intellectual property licenses and other agreements

  • Conducts risk analysis and strategic planning to identify lower-risk alternatives as needed

  • Assist with all aspects of company transactions including due diligence

Required Experience

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and a current license in good standing to practice law.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience as an Attorney in contract drafting and negotiation.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as an Attorney with in a Corporate Legal Department.

  • Analytical thinking with the ability to preparing clear and concise documents.

  • Proven legal research and drafting skills.

  • Effective oral and written communications, negotiating, and interacting with persons at all levels in the AHA, business, government and the public.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse clients and a substantial workload while providing timely and relevant legal support with the ability to meet established deadlines.

  • Must be able to interact with internal and external legal customers positively and effectively.
