The American Heart Association (AHA) has a great opportunity for Sr Manager Data Center and Network Operations in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX.

The primary responsibility of the Sr Manager, Data Center and Network Operations is to provide leadership and tactical management of the AHA data center, server, and network operational teams who in turn ensure reliable services are available to AHA staff, service partners, and the public in support of the AHA mission.

This role sets standards for the selection of server, network, and related equipment and services. Working with AHA facilities staff the Sr Manager is a key member of the business continuity and disaster recovery team. Data center facilities may be AHA owned, leased co-location space, or cloud-based service all of which must be managed together to provide the technology environment upon which the entire AHA staff depends.

The Sr Manager is responsible to ensure high performance outcomes from these resources, products, processes and deliverables as well as ensuring well-coordinated collaboration throughout Business Technology and the enterprise. Emphasis on business value and quality of service is critical while working to reduce the cost of infrastructure. The Sr Manager is responsible for developing strategic relationships with key vendors and AHA leadership throughout the organization. Additionally the Sr Manager is a key member of the business continuity planning and testing team.

The environment in which this position works is ever changing which requires that the candidate be flexible and stay current with evolving trends in cloud computing, software applications, and network security.

Here are some of the essential job duties:

  • Provides oversight of day to day management of AHA data center, messaging, and network infrastructure

  • Directs infrastructure planning for server, network, messaging, and data center space/power/cooling

  • Construct annual budget plans and manage monthly variance tracking and forecasting. Manage contracts including establishing master service agreements, terms, renewals, and cancelations according to AHA legal and procurement guidelines

  • Manages relationships and negotiations with strategic vendors for equipment and services. Also, liaises with leadership across AHA to insure technology services AHA needs and determine future needs

  • Leverages AHA technology investment by maximizing life, utility and maintenance of systems

  • Ideates & designs support strategies by analyzing data and customer input to determine process improvements, tools or other innovative ways to support staff

  • Researches and implements new technologies enabling new business processes and opportunities for AHA. Participates in security planning, compliance, and incident response   

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, but equivalent experience is acceptable

  • Ability to plan and manage both capital and operational budget details in excess of $1 million/year is required

  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with design and management of owned and leased data center facilities, as well as large local and wide-area network infrastructure

  • Strong knowledge of server management, patching, scalability, and storage technologies. Also including knowledge of IT (BT) service delivery practices and standards

  • At least ten (10) years’ experience building, migrating, and managing corporate messaging platforms including hybrid cloud/SAAS email and conferencing (e.g. Skype for business) services

  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with technology trends and assess business value

  • Ability to build and lead teams that tackle complex problems and perform broad technology implementations

  • Strong written or oral communication skills

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • At least five (5) years of contact management and database management

  • At least ten (10) years of staff development planning
