The Greater Southeast Affiliate of the American Heart Association is looking to fill a seasonal, part-time, home based, 20-25 hours per week, 12-16 weeks (please only apply if you are looking for part-time, seasonal work) opportunity for a Youth Market Heart Healthy Presentation (HHP) Specialist in our Knoxville, TN market. The HHP Specialist will partner with our current Youth Market Director to promote our Jump Rope For Heart community service learning activity in elementary schools within the (Knoxville, TN) will run December 12 and run through late March 2017 . The selected candidate will help promote the Jump Rope For Heart program at elementary schools by delivering Heart Healthy Presentations (school assembly with 200+ students present) at 2-3 schools a day for an overall total of 40-50 assemblies, meet with school staff to gain support and interest for the events, and provide minimal day-to-day support to AHA staff. The ideal candidate will have strong social skills, be energetic, outgoing, ability to speak in front of large groups of students, and successfully communicate a clear call to action that results in immediate fundraising action online within 24 hours. We will train the selected candidate on how to deliver the AHA message to schools. The overall objective and driving force for this position is to focus on a high level of excitement and engagement though a kick-off assembly with a strong call to action that will in turn contribute to an increase in students registered and raising donations online as well as overall donations for the American Heart Association.

Required Experience

  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned school territory and to 2-3 elementary schools a day and conduct an all-school Heart Health Presentation in the morning/afternoon

  • Ability to communicate a clear call-to-action during various “guest” appearances on morning announcements while engaging students to go online and raise donations

  • Ability to create excitement and engage students to participate in Jump Rope For Heart, a community service program at their school, by engaging students and teachers during an all-school kick-off assembly

  • Ability to form relationships and establish rapport with audiences of all ages, with strong focus on elementary-aged students

  • High School Diploma/GED and/or Associates Degree and/or experience in education, public speaking related field, outside sales, or fundraising. Speaking/performing in front of large groups of people is a must with preferred experience with school-aged students.

  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully

  • Ability to speak publicly

  • Knowledge of school systems a plus

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change

  • Ability to travel within territory 90% of the day

  • Ability to be successful and bring a strong work ethic and passion to the work of the organization

  • Ability to engage each student that results in fundraising revenue within 24-48 hours of the program

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and work with youth Ability to operate a vehicle and work with youth (driver’s license and criminal background check will be conducted) and some heavy lifting is involved

  • Must have reliable home-based internet service

  • Ability to perform light administrative duties such as send/receive emails, organize an Outlook calendar, and some light data entry

NOTE: This is a work out of your home position that requires daily travel throughout the designated territory. The ideal person for this position has sales or fundraising experience, an education background, is self-motivated, organized, works well independently, is comfortable with public speaking and has skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook. This person must be able to travel daily to schools in their territory; and, as required, attend a full day training session and follow up online training meetings. This part-time temporary position requires you to travel to 2-3 schools per day, conduct Heart-Healthy assembly type presentations to groups of 200+ elementary aged students, and overall will visit and conduct assemblies at approximately 40-50 schools.
