Due to a recent retirement, the Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a home based Youth Market Director in CT. Under the direction of the Vice President Youth Market CT, the Youth Market Director is responsible for implementing the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart events and other Youth programs along with our Wear Red Day initiatives in the New London, Middlesex, Windham County Markets . The Director will act as the American Heart Association liaison with schools in the territory and is responsible for achieving income and recruitment goals through the management of existing customers, and prospecting for and cultivating of new accounts.

Please note that preference will be given to candidates living in the assigned territory.

Job Duties:

Include, but are not limited to: (a full job description will be provided if you are selected to interview for this position)

  • Drive revenue growth by working with school coordinators to achieve income goals while retaining current schools and recruiting new schools in the territory.

  • Actively work with school coordinators to help ensure the success of events through quality goal setting and leveraging known success drivers.

  • Establish mutually satisfying relationships and vision with schools/coordinators to develop and deepen their involvement with and support of the American Heart Association.

  • Maintain an updated Account Management data base (Dynamics).

  • Set goals for registered schools in Dynamics, and maintain projections throughout year.

  • Follow appropriate and timely cultivation plan for all schools.

  • Participate in training sessions and/or teleconferences and monthly Youth Market meetings.

  • Act as AHA information liaison to schools or community groups in territory.

  • Assist with any public relations efforts for events.

  • Attend school assemblies as requested.

  • Build strong, positive relationships with school personnel in territory; work towards opening up locked out territories.

  • Recruit and support schools for Wear Red Day

  • Assist with any Affiliate-wide training.

  • Integrate with other AHA departments.

  • Participate in Youth Market related programs, workshops and conferences

Required Experience

  1. Must have excellent knowledge of assigned territory and/or mapping and directional capabilities.

  2. Ability to work independently and resourcefully

  3. Outside sales experience with identifiable results

  4. Applied knowledge and intermediate skills in windows applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook

  5. Ability to travel within territory 80% of the time and outside the territory 20% of the time for monthly Regional or Affiliate wide meetings and/or training

  6. Ability to speak publicly

  7. Knowledge of school systems a plus

  8. Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs from the ground to waist level with or without reasonable accommodation.

  9. Ability to work outside standard hours as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.

  10. Satisfactory background and reference checks upon offer of employment.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.

Experience: Must have at least 2 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
