The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President, Youth Market (VP) in our Eastern States Region. The position will be Home Office based with the flexibility to be located in any of the following states: MA, CT, ME, NH, or Albany NY . Under the direction of the SVP of Development, the VP is responsible for providing coaching and supervision to a team of 10 Youth Market Directors and team revenue goal of $3.25M. This position specializes in securing and activating sponsorship for Youth Market from corporations and healthcare organizations throughout the territory focusing on recruiting, goal setting and managing a team. You will coach and have responsibility in volunteer recruitment and management, will work to leverage volunteers through committees and/or boards in the market, to make introductions to schools and districts and corporations to participate and/or sponsor the youth health movement. Hold each other accountable, both volunteers and staff, while being accessible and build collaborative staff-volunteer partnerships that are based on a foundation of mutual trust. Create a collaborative environment where staff from various functions work together to achieve results across health, revenue and volunteerism goals for the organization.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Accept final responsibility for overall management, planning and development of Youth Market activities in assigned region. Guide and direct team to achieve goals.

  • Accountable for hiring, directing, training, evaluating and terminating staff under his/her supervision.

  • Maintain the expense budget for your assigned region and the overall affiliate product budget for Youth Market activities.

  • Participate in the planning and coordination of affiliate-wide Youth Market conferences, strategic planning, advocacy initiatives, and goal development activities.

  • Accept final responsibility to plan, build and execute a timeline for all Youth Market activities and team goals.

  • Work with the Senior Vice President of Development to reach National performance benchmarks, using identified Best Practices.

  • Coordinates, plans and implements activities and resources necessary to achieve Youth Market territoryfundraising goal, with a focus on new business development.

  • Provides vision and strategy through best practices for Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge in school districts with high level health education and fundraising potential.

  • Prospects, pitches and secures corporate sponsorships from companies and healthcare organizations, andactivates benefit plans with those sponsors.

  • Responsible for Kids Heart Challenge event volunteer and participant recruitment and engagement, training andmanagement activities to reach income goals.

  • Key internal collaborator with accounts and volunteers across market and Board of Directors and opportunities to join national leadership task-force, around emerging strategies.

  • Accurate data entry into relevant databases to ensure reporting and campaign progress are tracked in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that divisions and activities function within the parameters of American Heart Association and Eastern State regional policies.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.

  • Must have at least 4 years of experience in outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.

  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 4 year related experience requirement. Experience gained through direct internal work on AHA projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Knowledge of community organization, sales, fundraising, and marketing principles, practices, techniques, and trends.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and similar narrative pieces.

  • Ability to do daily travel up to 75% and overnight travel up to 25%.

  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to maintain a rigorous, goal-oriented management approach.

  • Proven background and willingness to work in atmosphere requiring flexibility and change.

  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.

  • Must pass background checks.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply.

Benefit Plans:

Employees scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in the medical, dental, and vision plans the first of the month following 30 days of service. AHA subsidizes the medical and dental cost to ensure benefits are affordable. Eligible dependents under AHA’s group benefit plans include legal spouse, domestic partner, children under the age of 26 or who are disabled. AHA offers additional benefits like an EAP, telehealth benefit for general medical and behavioral health, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and disability.

Retirement Plans: AHA retirement plans offer employees a way to start saving after their first paycheck. The retirement plans provide employer contributions after two years of service. If you have previous 501(c)(3) non-profit experience, within the last 5 years, at a national health agency, an institution of higher learning or a medical institution, that experience may count towards the two-year waiting period. Employees are 100% vested in employee and employer contributions.

Paid Days Off: Regular full-time and part-time employees earn Paid Time Off (PTO) based on years of service. PTO begins accruing on date of hire. Full time employees receive one paid Community Service time off day per year and are encouraged to participate in projects, programs and organizations which contribute to the health and vitality of their communities. AHA also offers 12 paid holidays per year.

Leaves of Absence: AHA offers both Short Term and Long-Term Disability benefits which replace earnings if you are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. Employees are eligible for Short Term Disability after 90 days of service and are eligible for Long Term Disability after being disabled for 90 days or more. Eligible employees can take up to 12 weeks off of work for a qualified leave of absence under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), intermittent FMLA leaves and leave as an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA.
