The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, such as event planning, donor outreach, community impact, marketing and communications, and advocacy initiatives.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 1/16/2024 – 5/17/2024

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

  • Home Based position. Intern must be based in Charleston, West Virginia, or the immediate surrounding area.

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.

  • Opportunity to explore a career path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.

  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning the multiple departments of a corporate non-profit.

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Assistance with pre-event planning, day of execution, and event wrap-up projects related to any Spring events.

  • Assist in the writing and editing of communications and graphic design for events.

  • Research and solicit for auction donations from hotels, restaurants, luxury brands, etc. and travel to pick up donated items.

  • Participate in weekly team meetings. As needed, special projects will be assigned.

  • Willingness to work with all departments in furthering our mission such as development, health strategies, marketing and communications, and advocacy.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must:

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Be able to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.

  • Have an interest in event planning, fundraising, advocacy, nonprofits, and community health.

  • Be comfortable with administrative tasks, such as printing, mailings, and office organization.

  • Be detail oriented and creative.

  • Be able to attend local fundraising and community events.

  • Basic knowledge of Canva is a plus.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm. (May require after hours and weekend work.

  • Travel is required throughout the West Virginia area. Mileage reimbursement provided. Reliable transportation required.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.

  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection
