Responsibilities

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Communications Manager . This position can be home-based.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible grant funded position. Current funding is approximately through June 2025 .

This manager will be responsible for for developing, planning and executing targeted media and communications strategies for an assigned AHA/ASA program or issue. Responsible for acting as media and marketing representative for the assigned program or issue.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Devises, plans, and implements communications strategy for assigned focus area (health promotions/conditions). Plans may include media events, advertising campaigns, social media, opinion/editorial content, or other communications tactics.

  • Acts as point of contact for multiple media outlets; includes researching, targeting and fostering relationships with media contacts and responding to media requests and public inquiries.

  • Writes press releases, media advisories, blog posts, key messages, fact sheets and other content for targeted audience and issues.

  • Prepares and executes media events and related media programs according to the communications plan.

  • Collaborates with AHA/ASA departments as appropriate to assigned focus area to incorporate messaging into programs and initiatives across the organization.

  • Identifies, trains and engages national volunteer experts for specialized messaging and media opportunities.

  • Identify and manage vendors required to assist with communications plans (translation, public relations, media relations, promotions) to targeted audience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

  • 2 to 5 years work related experience

  • Experience in marketing, communications or media relations in a large organization

  • Experience developing and implementing focused marketing or communications campaigns

  • Proven ability to develop newsworthy ideas, write and pitch stories to media outlets

  • Demonstrated success in creating marketing or media plans

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
