American Heart Association National Director, Multimedia Production & Original Programming in Dallas, Texas

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a National Director of Multimedia Production & Original Programming based out of our National Center office in Dallas, Texas !

Reporting to the National Vice President of Creative and Design, the Director of Original Programming will lead content and storytelling initiatives with a digital-first perspective across video and podcast productions. The individual will grow the current slate of programming, as well as ideate and conceptualize new content productions for distribution across digital, social, and third-party channels. Additionally, they will monitor content consumption trends and best practices across various platforms (Youtube, TikTok, OTT/streaming/linear etc.) to help inform formatting and engagement strategies to grow audience and views. In this role, the candidate will ensure that AHA is the preferred source for credible and equitable health solutions

Responsibilities

  • Leads American Heart Association Original Programming content from creative conception through launch and monitoring after launch, including video (long-form, social cuts, linear/streaming and live audience) and podcast production and distribution serving consumer and professional audiences.

  • Provides day-to-day leadership and management to a team of in-house producers, writers, editors, freelance contributors, and vendors; this includes streamlining vendor management processes.

  • With a digital first mindset, focuses on evaluating and improving existing programming properties while also identifying opportunities to launch new content that delivers on both organizational, and audience needs. While leading through the lens of audience development and research, serves as a key figure in decision making to determine the viability of projects. Furthermore, this includes better use of data and insights to inform our direction including staying abreast of trends in programming and applying those key learnings.

  • Broadens the field of content by: (1) Leading content distribution strategies and planning while identifying new lanes and opportunities to broaden distribution, (2) Assisting in identifying opportunities to monetize original programming with third party partners, and (3) Developing content acquisition strategies and tactics to create space for existing influential voices in the health landscape to add to our content offerings.

  • Oversees content slate and calendar schedule of limited or episodic content series to coincide with enterprise-wide initiatives, seasonal or thematic campaigns.

  • Effectively establishes an infrastructure and processes for production timeline tracking and communication. Responsible for planning, production, project budget management and on-time delivery.

  • Establish a process for piloting and testing new concepts, along with a rubric for evaluation, before significant investments are made. Also leads the team in reviewing concepts, pitches, scripts, etc.

  • Works cross-functionally with other teams to ensure the integrity and success of all original content including science, legal, communications, web, social media, brand, business technology, etc. Communicates progress, challenges, and options for solutions to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of the following experience:

  • Experience overseeing video content production, preferably at a studio, network, agency or brand

  • Podcast development

  • Has previously led a team of direct reports.

  • Must possess a strong knowledge of story development, writing, story arcs/framework, production, and film.

  • Must have an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to work under pressure with often tight timelines.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present to leadership

  • Ability to oversee the editing process.

  • Ability to analyze data and interpret into narrative form

  • Ability to conduct presentations to a various level of professional audiences

  • Ability to work optimally with staff and volunteers at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to think logically and tackle problems

  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret policies and procedures governing research programs and to apply these policies in various situations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area.

  • Five years of familiarity with audience development across YouTube, Web, Social (Instagram / TikTok / Facebook) preferred

  • Five years of hands on editing experience a plus
