Sr. Manager, Accounts Payable in Dallas, Texas

American Heart Association is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to join our team!

This position will work in a hybrid setting (in office 3 days a week) at our National Center office located in Dallas, TX!

This individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of the accounts payable function and providing a high-level of customer service within the finance department and to other business partners across the association and externally. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and organize the workload.

  • Manage the operation of accounts payable and research disbursement functions, including management of the Procurement Card and e-payables programs.

  • Oversee the maintenance and reconciliation of accounts payable ledger accounts, financial statements, and other relevant reports.

  • Lead efforts to standardize accounts payable processes, including the creation and monitoring of performance metrics as well as identification and implementation of new technologies.

  • Train and motivate team members to achieve project goals and create opportunities for their career development.

  • Responsible for accounts payable month-end and annual close activities.

  • Coordinate accounts payable reporting and compliance, including leading activities associated with compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and working with external and internal auditors.

  • Prepare and maintain accounts payable process flows and narratives documentation in accordance with departmental and association wide policies.

  • Manage key vendor relationships.

  • Implement process improvements. Ensure that transaction entry verification procedures are followed.

  • Lead accounts payable in implementation of new financial system and other special projects.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience

  • Five (5) years of prior relevant experience in accounts payables with minimum two (2) years of team leadership experience

  • Three (3) years of experience with purchasing card account management

  • Two (2) years of experience with government contractual disbursements and record keeping

  • Ability to work independently and be well organized while managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting the deadlines

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices for cash flow, accounts payable, and bank account reconciliation

  • Proficient and detail oriented in basic math, accounting skills

  • Proficient in Excel and automated financial and expense reporting systems - preferably mid to large size ERP system
