We have an excellent opportunity for a Communications Director in Houston, TX.
As the Communications Director you will supervise communications for the Houston/Gulf Coast Division. You will make an outstanding impact by working with development and health strategies colleagues to craft and deliver essential communications and marketing support.
Responsibilities involve working with the Senior Director of Communications, the Director of Events, and other staff and volunteers to build and implement strategic marketing campaigns to support major fundraising events. You will also develop communications and marketing relationships and strategies to deepen engagement with existing sponsors and high-level volunteers for major events.
This position works from our Houston, TX office.

In this role, you will be responsible to:
Build, implement, and measure the success of a comprehensive marketing and promotional program that will improve image and position within the marketplace and the public. Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing and sponsorship programs and its activities, supervise progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance. This should include specific awareness- and sales-driven strategy for events, as well as mission priorities. Implements awareness campaigns on topics such as acute event and women and heart disease; works collaboratively with other key market staff to develop a coordinated approach to such campaigns.
Coordinate and maintain responsibility for all market print and electronic materials and branding such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc. Works with staff to assure that branding guidelines are followed locally.
Lead local paid advertising projects, including external media sponsorships, along with the Sr. Communications Director. Control budgets and prioritize resources amongst projects.
Secure media participation in support of American Heart Association events. Includes development of media sponsorship proposals and securing media sponsorships as appropriate, working with the Sr. Director to add continued value and to build media relationships.
Ensure and supervise that the market regularly conducts relevant market research. Monitor trends to keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications and not-for-profit management and governance and use this information to help the market operate with initiative promotions and innovation.
Lead projects as assigned, such as collective impact marketing projects and promotions for special events.
Work closely with the development team to support its objectives by providing appropriate tools, materials and presentations.
Develop, implement and supervise systems and procedures vital to the smooth operation of the marketing/communications function.
Plan and implement campaigns for event promotion, including producing ideas for promotional events or activities and coordinating them efficiently. Should supervise progress and submit performance reports and return on investment reports for marketing, advertising and sponsorship activities.
Responsible with others for producing content for the market’s online presence and social media accounts.
Work with Senior Director and/or VP to handle local crises or sensitive issues.
Works in collaboration with media advocacy staff to develop appropriate media advocacy strategies and implements strategies as appropriate.
Leads script and run-of-show writing, including supporting visual PowerPoint decks for events. Includes survivor, sponsor and donor video shoots and editing.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in marketing, public relations, or related field preferred.
At least 3 years of experience in marketing, marketing communications, or public relations. This experience may also count toward satisfying the educational requirement. Nonprofit and/or agency experience preferred.
Proven understanding of strategic marketing planning and implementation.
Proven record in developing and implementing marketing plans, including email, digital and social media campaigns.
Previous experience carrying out purposeful marketing plans and proven return on investment.
Skill in writing and editing for a variety of audiences via numerous marketing platforms, including writing for the web and mobile. Experience with AP Style preferred.
Ability to build sponsor return on investment materials and experience in leading/advising external agencies to develop event collateral.
Design capabilities and knowledge of Canva required.
Intermediate to advanced skill with Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
Skill in engaging communities via Social Media with metrics to support strategies (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as well as developing content (especially video) to help drive engagement.
Skill in producing short video presentations, including script writing, shooting video and editing and/advising external agencies on such projects.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
