The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Quality & Systems Improvement Director-- Outpatient Programs covering our SE Region The Director, Quality and Systems Improvement (QSI) functions as a quality consultant, account manager, and business developer to healthcare organizations. Will be responsible for providing clinical and quality improvement consultation to our SE Community Impact team to strengthen customer support for outpatient, evidence-based clinical programs and quality improvement initiatives in respective ambulatory markets. Outpatient Programs and Services include Target BP, Know Diabetes By Heart, Check Change Control Cholesterol, American Heart Association’s collaboration with Society for Vascular Surgery and the Vascular Quality Initiative’s Vascular Medicine Consult Registry, and future American Heart Association outpatient programs. Responsibilities will also include identifying, securing, cultivating and managing relationships with hospital, physician partners, and other key stakeholders with regards to quality improvement to achieve program goals. This QSI Director role will include developing consultative expertise to assist the Get With The Guidelines ® Southeast QSI Directors to create and execute strategies to consult with participating GWTG Heart Failure and Stroke hospitals to achieve Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll status through improvement in diabetes measures.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Be a clinical resource and provide quality improvement consultation to the Southeast Community Impact team as needed to support further development of quality improvement initiatives in the outpatient clinical programs including Target BP, Know Diabetes By Heart, Check Change Control Cholesterol, American Heart Association’s collaborative work with the Society for Vascular Surgery.

  • Provide strategic consultative support to the Southeast Quality & Systems Improvement Directors for Get With The Guidelines ® on Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll for Heart Failure and Stroke programs.

  • Take the lead role in assimilating any future Quality Improvement outpatient programs into the Southeast QSI workflow with strategies and recommendations for new models of delivery and/or integration.

  • Serve as SE QSI Team Lead for Outpatient programs, which includes participating on regional and national clinical workgroups as requested.

  • Coordinate and conduct account management activities in the Southeast Region including implementation and quality improvement consulting for hospital-affiliated clinics, independent clinics, and physician practices to support AHA outpatient programs using data and data collection web-based tools.

  • Consult with appropriate individuals and teams with respect to compliance issues and strategies to facilitate progress—in concert with recommendations from the QSI VP. Work directly with Clinics and Physician Practices as it relates to Outpatient QSI Programs, including market growth strategies; identifying, recruiting, coaching and consulting with pilot sites for data collection; and, building and implementing cross-functional strategies to enroll sites in the SVS Registry.

  • Manage customer relationships including use of Microsoft Dynamics, Patient Management Tools, and other Health IT systems and supports related to Outpatient QSI Programs.

  • With guidance from QSI VP, collaborate with Health Strategies team members in the development and implementation of comprehensive territory/state plans to achieve organizational strategic goals, which may include, but are not limited to, activities related to reducing health disparities.

  • Manage the accredited and non-accredited workshops and other related customer educational opportunities in primary markets related to quality products. Execute all necessary pre-work activities required to launch all future QSI initiatives created and implemented to support the AHA/ASA impact goal.

  • Interact with appropriate AHA staff and volunteers to leverage opportunities and provide seamless customer relationship management.

  • Be results driven with a collaborative style of work to achieve goal-specific outcomes.

  • Consistently uphold excellent relationship skills focused on optimizing the value of our American Heart Association quality improvement tools and programs while being attentive to customer needs and satisfaction


The is a home-office based position and requires frequent travel with occasional overnight travel.

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, community or public health or equivalent; Master's degree preferred, but not required.

  • 2 years of nursing and/or other clinically related experience in a hospital, clinic, or physician practice setting with preferred quality improvement experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, hypertension and diabetes.

  • Clear, well developed oral and written communication and presentation skills as well as strong analytic skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy with demonstrated proactive problem-solving capabilities

  • Relevant experience with a national clinical quality improvement program that incorporates clinical data capture within a process improvement framework

  • Quality Improvement Consultant role experience preferred.
