American Heart Association Intern, Community Impact & CPR in New Orleans, Louisiana

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, public health research, community partner networking/connection, and program development/implementation.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 5/22/23 – 8/11/23

  • Intern must be based in New Orleans or immediate surrounding area

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in organizing/implementing community health initiatives and programs throughout communities

  • Training and direction of volunteers including community emergency response curriculum

  • Help with the implementation of signature events and other activities

  • Public health research

  • Establishing/maintaining strong community partnerships

  • Program development and implementation

  • Leadership and board support

Qualifications

  • 2+ years educational or equivalent experience in health or public health courses.

  • Demonstrated ability to research health topics and translate findings into actionable guidance.

  • Demonstrated excellence in written communications skills, including writing on health topics for promotional or educational outcomes.

  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Basic knowledge of Canva, Animoto or Adobe Creative suite is a plus.

  • Experience leading CPR Training classes is a plus.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
