The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Development Director for our Go Red For Women event in our Midwest Affiliate office located in St. Louis, Missouri . The Development Director, Go Red For Women (GRFW) is responsible and accountable for recruitment, training, campaign goal and management activities to ensure efficient growth and development of the assigned GRFW luncheon and other local events. The GRFW Director is responsible for securing local sponsorship income, individual donations and auction items, in partnership with the immediate supervisor to support the events and to maximize overall income potential. GRFW Director will work as part of a team while adhering to specific “Best Practices” and staying with the American Heart Association’s fundraising cost guidelines.
Provides coaching for the Development Coordinator who supports both the Go Red for Women Campaign and the Executive Director. Direct supervisory responsibilities for the Development Coordinator are under the Executive Director.
Secures sponsorships, individual gifts, auction items and influential community leaders to raise funds for the GRFW campaign.
Provide staff leadership in planning, development, maintenance, implementation and evaluation of the luncheon and supporting Go Red events in the metro area.
Assure that the vision and strategic direction for the GRFW event is in alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives.
Develop, monitor, and evaluate an annual working plan with dollar and volunteer recruitment goals, budget and timelines for the event.Develop contingency plans, as needed to successfully complete fundraising activities.
Develop profiles on the top businesses within the assigned geographic area with a documented plan to secure their involvement. Completes company goal setting worksheets and prioritizes companies by their potential.
Develop relationship-building strategies to include making personal visits on a monthly and quarterly basis. Develop effective working relationship with high level-executives.
Work closely with the Communications Director on the promotion and communications plan. #LI-CS1
Work with committee chairs on all aspects of their campaign/events to assure a successful outcome.

Bachelor’s or some college plus experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 1/2 years experience equates to 1 full-time year of higher education.
Must have at least 2 years of experience in fundraising, outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
Knowledge of community organization, sales, fundraising, and marketing principles, practices, techniques, and trends.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and similar narrative pieces.
Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.
Ability to do daily travel up to 75% and overnight travel up to 25%.
Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
