Using GenAI in the application process: Best practices & permitted use

At the American Heart Association, we champion innovation that helps people thrive—and that includes how we approach the job application process. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI or AI) can be a powerful tool to support your journey, but we believe nothing replaces the power of your authentic self.

We want to understand you—your unique experiences, your skills, and your perspective.

To help you use GenAI responsibly and effectively, we’ve outlined a few best practices and appropriate uses below. Our goal is to ensure your application reflects both your potential and your personal story.

The American Heart Association’s use of AI

At Heart, we are committed to ensuring that our use of AI is ethical, transparent, and in line with the principles of data privacy.

Transparency & Fairness

Any AI systems to be purchased and implemented will always be rigorously tested for bias to ensure fairness and equal treatment of all individuals regardless of their personal characteristics, including but not limited to race, gender, age, or socioeconomic background. They will also be regularly audited to assess their fairness, accuracy, and compliance with local laws and regulations.

Assessments

Currently, we are not using any AI-enabled tools for assessing candidates.

Hiring

We are not using, and will not use, AI to make hiring decisions.

Our practices regarding AI will evolve as technological advancements progress, and we will continue to update our statement accordingly. You can visit our career page at any time to find the latest information.
