The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Business Development Manager .

The Sr. Business Development Manager will drive a competitive strategy for membership acquisition, retention, and engagement. Develop and execute planning and service necessary to meet the organizational goals of significantly growing and maintaining current and new membership populations.

Manages the Membership experience, including development, implementation and evaluation processes of programs and services for members and target audiences. Work with VP of Membership to develop a strong organization-wide impetus for member engagement, new member recruitment and the delivery of a strong membership value proposition for our domestic and international members.

Responsibilities

Success in this position is aligned with membership targets being achieved in collaboration with other American Heart Association departments to ensure that membership marketing campaigns and support systems are integrated with program development, reflect priorities, and respond to the existing and anticipated needs of members and volunteers. A strong focus on fully understanding and anticipating membership challenges and developing strategies to overcome challenges is essential.

  1. Increase the size and retention of the organization’s membership by developing and implementing strategic growth plans, managing the annual renewal process, and seeking new opportunities to best serve, connect and engage our members.

  2. Increase membership revenue through portfolio growth, managing and growing membership benefits, and analyzing and recommending revisions to the existing dues structure.

  3. Oversee membership tier structure/program to ensure an outstanding member experience by developing and maintaining customer service standards for members. Oversee member affinity programs and evaluate program performance.

  4. Provide leadership, development, and critical insight, forecasting for professional membership metrics and reporting for professional membership team.

  5. Develop and grow institutional membership and create value proposition for 3 key international regions to aggressively pursue in the first year.

  6. Explore the opportunity to develop and grow citizen membership.

  7. Manage membership service provider vendor relationship.

  8. Collaborate with the marketing department on the development of membership campaigns that meet diverse needs, supporting our efforts to increase and retain members in all populations. Research the need for promotions based on demographics, market segmentation, survey data, customer feedback.

  9. Collaborate with the association’s Data Services on maintaining member and prospect database, annual update process, membership analysis, and development of membership statistical reports.

  10. Acquire, analyze and disseminate data dealing with current membership trends, projected demographic changes, membership value study, satisfaction surveys, etc. to develop, articulate and implement the strategies to assist in developing the agility needed to meet the challenges of a changing external environment.

  11. Coordinate membership policies and standard operating procedures.

  12. Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, public relations or related

  • Five to seven years’ experience in association management or membership with a minimum of three years in supervisory capacity.

  • Prior success in developing and implementing membership and revenue growth plans for associations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high emphasis on customer service and experience in creating and delivering written proposals and public presentations.

  • Team player with proven ability to manage, mentor, and empower staff.

  • Advanced computer skills, proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, and substantial database/CRM experience.

  • Detail oriented, self-starter, with strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Availability for some business-related travel and overtime as needed.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Experience in project management and managing multiple

  • Familiarity with customer relationship management systems for associations and reporting.

  • Sales and customer service team management experience
