This is a full time, benefits eligible grant funded positio n. Current funding is through approx. June 2026.

Responsibilities

In this role you, will lead community strategy for the initiative, incorporating the lived experience of patients who have been treated with food is medicine interventions. The Sr. Program Lead for Community Health will work closely with the leadership team and volunteer groups. This national initiative will provide the large-scale clinical evidence required to help identify, support, and implement the most viable food Is medicine strategies by ensuring they are included in covered benefits through public and private insurance.

Here are some of the essential job duties:

  • Management of key volunteer groups:

  • Manage Lived Experience Group/Patient Advisory Group, which provides ongoing insight into the initiative, including research design and translation, public education, advocacy, and implementation. The purpose of the Advisory Group is to ensure that community priorities, voices, and perspective are reflected throughout the Initiative and to help ensure culturally relevant, equitable outcomes.

  • Develop Lived Experience project strategy with feedback loop to initiative leadership.

  • Support integration of strategic priorities across initiative guidance groups to ensure alignment with goals.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for health equity priorities in the initiative

  • Translate insights from volunteer groups into actionable community engagement strategies

  • Lead projects examining the intersection of food and everyday life

  • Work to disseminate education and materials based on insights from the Lived Experience Group

  • Work with Mission Advancement and Corporate Relations teams to identify opportunities to build and fund community-level HCXF efforts

  • Support content and planning for annual HCXF convening

  • Liaison to community initiatives at the Association, including food is medicine practitioners

  • Collaborate with advocacy team on grassroots opportunities leveraging lived experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent work experience in Health Promotion, Public Health, Human Resources, Marketing, Business, Communications.

  • Seven (7) years validated experience in business development or account management.

  • Experience in program development, planning and management.

  • Experience in public health or non-profit services.

  • Comprehensive experience building business cases, analyzing market trends and identifying creative business opportunities.

  • Ability to influence leadership without direct authority.

  • Ability to communicate and present ideas across diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of health organizations and community-based standard processes for engaging community-based organizations.

  • Experience with market/consumer research, analytics and reporting.

  • Minimum of 2 years-experience in recruiting, mobilizing, managing, recognizing, and evaluating volunteers

  • Proven ability to simultaneously lead multiple, complex projects and events in varying stages of development under time constraints to ensure deadline compliance.

  • Proven understanding and appreciation for the use of technology and information systems.

  • Proven critical thinking skills in assessing needs and available resources to efficiently implement new and existing programs.

  • Self-motivated, highly effective organizational and analytical skills, communication, negotiation, and social skills.

  • Validated ability to efficiently participate in or facilitate meetings with internal and external clients including interacting with external partners/sponsors representing the Association to the public as vital.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected pay range will be $95,000 - $105,000 . This position is incentive eligible based on achieving certain targets. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
