The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Program Consultant, Health Care working with our Mission: Lifeline Stroke team . This full-time, benefits-eligible position is grant-funded, with current funding expiring on February 29, 2028. This role is located in Hawaii. This role can be home based on this location.

The Program Consultant, Health Care will implement quality programs and system of care processes aimed at improving care for patients with cardiovascular disease, specifically stroke. This role involves collaborating with healthcare and EMS agencies, system of care organizations, and departments of health to enhance treatment guidelines, clinical processes, and practices for stroke patients. The consultant will also manage project status and deliverables within budget, scope, and timeline, working closely with various departments within regional and national offices.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Improvement Projects : Drive implementation of projects to help healthcare providers treat patients according to American Heart Association guidelines. Provide consultation, direction, and support through learning cohorts to identify strategies for improving outcomes. Build relationships with stakeholders and volunteers. Facilitate learning cohort meetings and local conferences.

  • Program Implementation Strategies : Develop strategies aligned with initiative objectives. Serve as the point person for ongoing resources needed by hospitals, post-acute facilities, EMS agencies, state agencies, and local stroke coalitions. Establish sustainability plans for all components of the grant.

  • Clinical Decision Support Tools : Develop tools and collaborate with clinicians to improve care. Recruit program participants and work with clinical care teams to address barriers to guideline adoption and enhance clinical workflows.

  • Communication and Collaboration : Communicate regularly with the director and team members to ensure tasks are completed according to the grant timeline. Work with cross-functional teams to build buy-in and ensure grant deliverables are met.

  • Project Management : Manage project documents, including budgets, timelines, and status reports for internal and external audiences. Build relationships and work effectively with volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.

  • 3 + years in healthcare or a public health-related organization, including clinical, quality improvement, program development, and systems improvement.

  • Proficiency in managing budgets, timelines, activity plans, and communication with team members and stakeholders.

  • Skilled in working with clinical audiences to impact change management related to patient outcomes.

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and work in a team environment, interacting with all levels of American Heart Association staff, volunteers, and the public.

  • Comprehensive Microsoft Office suite skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Availability to travel 25% of the time per year. This includes overnight stay.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical experience in the acute or post-acute stroke care setting.

  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, SharePoint, and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, GoToWebinar.

  • Advanced Degree or Certification (RN, OT, PT, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits

The expected pay range will be $65,000 to $85,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. The American Heart Association invests in its people.
