Internship at the American Heart Association
We are committed to providing a meaningful learning experience and nurturing talent who can contribute to our mission – ‘To be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives’.
We welcome interns through out the year to various departments and from a variety of majors.
We are committed to providing a rewarding experience to each student by offering a professional work environment where professional skills can be developed and where there is opportunity to observe, assist, and learn about the work done at the American Heart Association. Thereby allowing the student to test potential career choices based on real-life work experiences in addition to providing an opportunity to gain on-the-job knowledge which will help make them more viable candidates for future job opportunities.

What advice would you give to future interns?
For first-generation college students, I would say don’t stress. You fit in here too, and there is an abundance of people at the AHA who are willing to help you grow as a professional. It was through their time, guidance, and willingness to listen to me as a first-generation intern, that helped me gain more confidence in my work. Your talents and experience have already proven your potential. Don’t forget that your own insight is just as valuable as everyone else’s. Now that you’re here, don’t be afraid to speak up, and learn as much as you can from as many people as possible.

Interning with the American Heart Association has been a truly unforgettable experience. I approached my position as an internal audit intern with confidence and made sure to soak up every bit of knowledge provided to me throughout. The internal audit team, including my manager Chris Lewis, has been incredibly helpful over these past few months; any questions I had were answered and any doubts I had were cleared, allowing me to work to my fullest potential. By collaborating with this team in the environment provided by the organization and its Dallas office, I have been able to engross myself in my role and acquire a host of valuable professional and technical skills. Most important to me is the fact that my work with the AHA has the power to make a tangible difference in the world. Being able to contribute to the American Heart Association's mission has been greatly engaging and eye-opening, and I will continue to strive to create positive impacts in any roles I may hold in the future.

I can truly say interning at the American Heart Association has been one of the best experiences. I am surrounded by people who believe in me and want me to succeed. I came into the internship not knowing what to expect, but now I feel more prepared to take on the workforce. My team makes my input feel valued and gives me a voice to share my thoughts. One of my favorite things about working here is the meaningful work that we do.

I had recently completed my tour in the US Army and I felt like I did not belong in the civilian world! When I spoke with the recruiter, she said the AHA would make me feel like I belonged somewhere again and she was right. My team is amazing and really help me work on my strengths and weaknesses and have helped me navigate the civilian world. The AHA is such a diverse family and everyone is so passionate about the work that they do here! I am so grateful for this opportunity.
