American Heart Association Communications Specialist in Louisville, Kentucky

We are currently hiring for a Communications Specialist in Louisville. The specialist will be responsible for developing and coordinating communications activities in support of the assigned market's community activities, advocacy and events. Responsible for creating, editing or proposing content for media, web and email communications including understanding and reporting on effectiveness of media outlets.

Responsibilities

  • Create content for a variety of communications and media outlets. Identify appropriate medium and outlet (traditional and digital) for distribution of press releases, website/pages, newsletters, or public notifications. Collaborate with staff or volunteers to assist with development and distribution.

  • Contact and develop relationships with appropriate outlet owner to arrange placement of stories, photos, spokesperson interviews, promotional events, or media sponsorships.

  • Facilitate messaging and initiate posts for market or region Social Media activities to recruit and engage fans and followers on various digital platforms. Propose and implement digital communications through a variety of design projects.

  • Monitor and respond to email and online communications requests through designated mailboxes or social media. Regularly processes updates and email notifications.

  • Develop and produce campaign materials such as presentations, fact sheets, and ROI reports.

  • Provide administrative support for invoicing, budget tracking, data analysis or other financial activities as needed.

  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope and responsibility of the job level and family.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in marketing, marketing communications, or public relations.

  • Solid understanding of strategic public relations, marketing planning and implementation, including email and digital campaigns.

  • Skill in writing and editing for a variety of audiences via numerous marketing platforms, including writing for the web and mobile.

  • Ability to build sponsor return on investment materials.

  • Print and video design capabilities, including script writing, shooting video, and editing and/or directing external agencies on such projects.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience in engaging communities via social media with metrics to support strategies (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as well as developing content (especially video) to help drive engagement.

  • Ability to lift and/or move large objects (such as boxes) with the expectation that heavier items would be broken down into smaller components or requesting additional assistance may be required before lifting and/or moving.

  • Ability to travel within the assigned territory including attending events.

Here are some of the preferred experience skills we are seeking:

  • University or college degree.

  • Nonprofit and/or agency experience.

  • Existing media connections throughout the Kentucky area.

  • Experience with AP Style writing.
