The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Mission Advancement Advisor focused on Foundation Giving within our Eastern and Southeast States territories.
This position can be home-based within these territories.

Responsibilities
The Mission Advancement Advisor is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and developing funding relationships with current and past Association donors, emphasizing foundations that have a validated interest in the mission. Responsible for being a subject matter authority on the American Heart Association’s restricted fundraising programs and unrestricted efforts. Prepares and submits highly compelling and competitive proposals and applications, securing revenue from a portfolio of major donors, defined as those giving gifts and grants above $100,000.
Establish, nurture and steward relationships to generate revenue for the Association, primarily with foundations and their respective decision makers and influencers. Identify donor and prospective donor interests and lead relationship strategies and tactics to achieve revenue and performance goals.
Work across Association departments and markets to innovate opportunities, collaborate on funding priorities, and ensure alignment on implementation, recognition, and engagement expectations.
Prepare presentations, proposals, customize reports and other well-written, compelling and consistent documents that meet the Association strategic direction and funding needs while aligning with donor goals. Utilize standard Funding Opportunity resources to initiate the process. Present agreed-upon number of proposals, both face-to-face and via online submissions, to achieve established performance goals
Provide consultation, resources and leadership in areas of expertise and assigned roles within Mission Advancement and across the region as appropriate
Maintain accurate and timely records of all activities in donor database (Salesforce CRM), as the primary source of plans/documentation, progress, activity and results related to relationship development, donor information and proposal progress. Salesforce CRM is the primary source for performance management
Participate in training activities and work with other team members to advance Mission Advancement objectives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Two (2) to Five (5) experience
Experience in fundraising with at least two years focused on major gifts ($100k+) or large accounts, preferably supporting large scale research on health and/or community issues
Foundation grant research and writing experience along with foundation cultivation and relationship-building
Experience in cultivating major giving and/or engagement opportunities that align with organizational mission, goals and strategies at national and local levels
Demonstrated experience working with complex donors or clients representing $100k+ in revenue or philanthropy with proven fundraising results at the six- and seven-figure level
Demonstrated collaborative skills with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers and donors
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, preferably with respect to translation of scientific information for lay-audiences
Ability to travel up to 25% travel local and overnight stay
Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of or experience working in one or more of the following fields: public health, healthcare, medicine, community health, scientific research
Knowledge of the philanthropic landscape
Experience using donor relationship management software, such as Salesforce CRM, Blackbaud, Dynamics and/or Raiser’s Edge
Compensation & Benefits
The salary minimum to the midpoint of the range is $72,400.00 to $100,000.00. This position is incentive eligible up to 25% based on achieving certain targets. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
